THUNDERBOARD Beta Invite

Version 6.0.202 · Iowa county-mode severe weather and EOC situational awareness beta review.

What you are being asked to review

THUNDERBOARD is a county-selectable weather operations dashboard built for emergency management situational awareness. The beta is intended to help evaluate whether this tool is useful, understandable, and practical for county-level monitoring before, during, and after severe weather.

This review is not asking you to adopt THUNDERBOARD operationally. It is a beta review for feedback.

Important Notice

THUNDERBOARD is decision support only. Official National Weather Service products, local EOC procedures, WebEOC/CVEOC records, field reports, and agency policy remain authoritative.

Suggested review flow

  1. Open the dashboard.
  2. Click the blue Change County pill in the header, then select a county from the Iowa county picker map or searchable county list.
  3. Confirm county name, border, weather source, and dashboard context.
  4. Open the Help/User Manual.
  5. Open Status and review source health.
  6. Open County Readiness and search for your county.
  7. Try the Event Log and Historical Report Builder.
  8. Send feedback on anything confusing, missing, or operationally useful.

Feedback requested

  • Does county selection behave the way you expect?
  • Is the dashboard understandable for an EOC or duty officer?
  • Are warning, radar, SPC, river, NWR, and source-health items useful?
  • Does Impact Confidence help or confuse the operational picture?
  • Are the reports readable enough for briefings or after-action review?
  • What would you remove, rename, or simplify?

Known beta boundaries

  • THUNDERBOARD is still a beta review tool.
  • Some features depend on external data sources and browser/network behavior.
  • Not every county has the same local station, river gauge, camera, or NWR metadata depth.
  • AI-generated wording is limited to summary/explainability support and does not determine official warning decisions.
